As part of our work involving the delays with PTAs in Queensland, we have used Right To Information applications to obtain data on how many PTAs are issued each year.
We can now reveal Queensland’s Weapons Licensing Group has issued an average of 53,523 Permits To Acquire annually between Jan 1, 2020 and December 31, 2024, along with a total of 17,445 PTAs issued between January 1 and May 8 of this year.
- For 2020, there were 48,645 PTAs issued, 604 applications withdrawn, and 261 rejected.
- For 2021, there were 48,424 PTAs issued, 777 withdrawn and 214 rejected (a 0.44% rejection rate)
- For 2022 there were 43,887 PTAs issued, 682 withdrawn and 200 rejected (a 0.46% rejection rate)
- For 2023, there were 53,572 PTAs issued, 1115 withdrawn and 339 rejected (a 0.63% rejection rate)
- For 2024, there were 55,643 PTAs issued, 685 withdrawn and 267 rejected (a 0.48% rejection rate)
- Between January 1 and May 8 this year, there have been 17445 PTAs issued, 198 withdrawn and 90 rejected.
We did ask for a breakdown of PTA data by category, but unfortunately this was not provided.
