A Motion in the Upper House of the Western Australian Parliament to disallow the Firearm Regulations 2024 has failed by two votes, after The Greens sided with the ALP in voting against the Motion.
The Disallowance Motion had been championed by Legalise Cannabis MP Dr Brian Walker and was supported by the Nationals, One Nation, and the Australian Christians - an impressive display of support, but sadly not quite enough to get it over the line.
The Firearms Act 2024 is currently under review by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Legislation, although there is no timeframe for when they are likely to report back and no indication of what changes, if any, it will recommend.
