WLG’s banking on your ignorance. Don’t let them get their way

The Weapons Licensing Group (WLG) doesn’t want you to pay attention. In fact, they’re counting on it.

While firearm owners are busy trying to cut through red tape and navigate an increasingly bloated bureaucracy, WLG is making quiet moves, including pushing to change the law so they can strip licences from people with ‘no conviction recorded’ offences, as well as a range of minor matters like speeding fines and even charges that were later dropped.

This comes despite a landmark decision by the Queensland Court of Appeal, which made it clear: “no conviction recorded” offences cannot be used when assessing a firearms licence application.

New rules, no warning.

Here’s the kicker. According to our latest state-wide polling conducted by Insightfully In July 2025:

  • 68% of firearm owners weren’t even aware of WLB’s recent rule changes
  • Only 22% of Queenslanders support these changes once they know the full story
  • Gun ownership laws rank among the top concerns for Shooters Union members
  • Primary producers and regional landholders are still being bogged down by unnecessary red tape
  • Feral pest management is a top environmental concern, with state-wide support for action

These numbers are no accident, and WLG is riding on firearm owners’ ignorance. Rules are being quietly changed without proper consultation, transparency or ministerial oversight. Not only does this make the government look out of touch, it’s everyday firearm owners who are copping the consequences.

WLG wants to keep you in the dark. Let’s shine a light on what’s really going on.

Nothing hits harder than having the law turned against you when you’ve followed every rule, especially when it’s happening behind closed doors. It’s time to speak up.

Contact your local MP and demand transparency and accountability. These quiet changes have loud consequences and your voice matters.

Bureaucrats do not, and should not, get to make laws!
