Our Tasmanian president Phillip Bigg is supporting proposals by the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party (SFFP) of Tasmania to deal with the state’s out-of-control rabbit population by encouraging people to hunt, shoot and cook these pest game animals.
SFFP is calling for more effective control of rabbits in the state, with reports rabbits are now being seen hopping through urban areas of Hobart. As part of this, they are calling for suppressors to be made available to volunteer pest control shooters – an initiative that has Shooters Union’s full backing!
Phillip is also calling for the establishment of an independent firearms committee, made up of shooting community representatives (notably Shooters Union!) with binding recommendations, to “advise” the Tasmanian Government and Ministers on firearms-related matters in the state.
In the meantime, he has shared a favourite rabbit recipe which you might like to try yourself:
RASCALLY RABBIT BITES
1x Boned Rabbit meat and chunked
2x Tandaco southern fried coating mix
1 tsp sweet paprika
1 tbs chives
Optional: 2 tsp hickory or mesquite seasoning
– Using a freezer bag put all dry ingredients in (except one packet of coating mix) and shake to mix
– Add meat and coat thoroughly
– Allow to sit for 10-15 minutes
– Shake again; if no dry ingredients are left but meat is still moist, use spare coating mix until meat is evenly coated.
– Either deep fry in tallow or in a skillet with butter until dark golden
Bonus: This recipe also works for schnitzels if meat is tenderised to an even consistency.
Let us know if you’ve tried the recipe!
