Exciting News for Shooters Union Members!
After facing several delays, including a 12 week holdup due to SAPOL, the Shooters Union-affiliated shooting range near Lameroo (approximately 2.5 hours east of Adelaide) built by the renowned gun store The Gunnery, is finally ready to go!
This facility has now been officially approved, and shooting will commence on December 6, 2024. This is the first new approved range in South Australia for decades.
This new range is set to be a game-changer for South Australia. Not only is it understood to be the longest range in the state – over 1800meters – but it also features some of the largest IPSC bays in the region, with most bays offering 270-degree shooting coverage.
The Gunnery Shooting Club has reinvented the approach to shooting, eliminating club politics and tedious working bees. Instead, they’re focusing on a simple, fun, and accessible experience for all shooters, just as shooting should be.
Phase 1 of the build is now complete and includes:
- 12x 20mx20m IPSC Pistol & Shotgun Bays
- 100m–1800m rifle range (with options for even further distances.)
They still have a lot more to come within the next 12 – 18 months.
While the facility is ready to go, there are still some uncertainties surrounding new range conditions being drafted by SAPOL, which could impact clubs statewide in the coming year.
SAPOL’s recent changes have raised concerns, as some of the new requirements seem excessive and not entirely based on practical considerations.
Peter Heggie, the owner of The Gunnery and President for Shooters Union South Australia, is actively working to challenge these new guidelines and protect the interests of South Australian clubs, particularly IPSC clubs.
For Shooters Union members, this range represents a fantastic opportunity to get involved and enjoy some of the best shooting in South Australia. Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to be part of the future of shooting in South Australia!
