The Queensland State Election on October 27 has ousted the long-serving ALP Government, replacing it with an LNP Government under the leadership of Premier David Crisafulli.

Shooters will be pleased to know that pro-firearms MPs from the KAP party Robbie Katter (Traeger), Nick Dametto (Hinchinbrook) and Shane Knuth (Hill) have all been re-elected.

Unfortunately, Mirani MP  and KAP member Stephen Andrew has not been re-elected, with LNP MP Glen Kelly officially winning the seat following a nail-biting count.

None of the other KAP candidates were successful in their bids either, but considering the significant swing to the LNP across the entire state, there is absolutely no doubt that our support, and the support of members like you, was critical in getting Robbie, Nick and Shane re-elected and sending a loud and clear message in the other electorates that shooters want representation by MPs who understand their issues.

Overall, KAP increased their primary vote by about 15%, which is in excess of 10,000 votes in the electorates they ran in compared to 2020 – again, this is in the face of a significant swing to LNP across the entire state.

Based on the available real-time disclosure log information, SU made the largest donations of any shooting organisation to 2024 QLD election candidates – something made particularly challenging by new donation cap laws which limit how much money can be donated to political parties and entities,

As part of our support for KAP, our vice-president David Brown (who is a licensed pilot) took his own aeroplane around north Queensland, flying well over 10,000kms in support of KAP candidates (and dropping in to show some support to other pro-gun candidates as well).

Shooters Union has written to the new Premier and all LNP MPs, congratulating them on their win and expressing our desire for a productive working relationship.

We have also written individually to the new Primary Production Minister (Tony Perrett), Police Minister (Dan Purdie), Customer Service Minister (Steve Minnikin), Sport Minister (Tim Mander) and Environment Minister (Andrew Powell) to offer our congratulations on their appointments as well as provide briefing papers outlining some of the major issues facing shooters in their respective portfolios.
