The Lithgow Small Arms Factory Museum is an integral part of Australia’s industrial, military, and firearms history and heritage, and is at risk of closure following a break-in earlier this year.

According to the LSAFM, site owner Thales have reneged on a deal to sell the museum buildings to LSAFM for a nominal sum, and are instead only offering a long-term lease – including approval rights for the necessary security upgrades to keep the museum operating.

The museum cannot afford to pay thousands of dollars every week for an indefinite period in security guard fees, and are calling on the NSW State Government to expedite a Heritage Listing for the museum buildings, as well as “facilitating” the purchase of the museum buildings by LSAFM.
