We are proud to introduce our new shooter ethos: “Keep Standing”
It’s pretty clear that when the 1996 laws were introduced, the authorities expected shooters to give up and hand in their licences, with attrition taking care of everyone else over the next few years.
Even the licensing and registration systems were set up on this assumption. What no-one expected was that, over the next 30 years, more people would want to become shooters – yet this is exactly what’s happened.
In fact, many (if not most) of the issues relating to firearms licensing and registries in Australia are a result of this, and the authorities deciding the solution is to reduce the number of shooters instead of getting rid of firearms registration like Canada has.
The authorities want us to think there’s no point even trying to be a licensed shooter; that it’s all too hard or too much work or pointless.
That simply isn’t true, however. The good news is to win out over the bullying and anti-gun hysteria, you just need to do one simple thing:
Keep Standing.
Hang on to your licence, no matter how much hassle it might be. Keep as many guns as you can, no matter how difficult it gets. In fact, consider buying more guns if you can justify it (either to the firearms registry or your bank account).
Every shooter who jumps through the hoops to apply for a firearms licence is a win. Every person who responds to a “more information please” request with the extra information and receives their PTA or licence renewal is a win. Every shooter who says “You will not get me to give up on shooting” is a win. Every new shooter who sees the situation and decides to get their firearms licence anyway is a huge win.
If we keep standing, we win. It’s that simple.
